Weronika Narloch and Gergely Hajdu at the AAS Journal Author Series
Our colleagues Weronika Narloch and Gergely Hajdu were invited by Frank Timmes to talk about their recent work as part of the AAS Journal Author Series. In this recent paper of the Araucaria Project, they calibrated period-luminosity and period-Wesenheit relations in the Sloan-Pan-STARRS gri bands for the classical fundamental-mode Cepheids located in the Milky Way. It is the first such a calibration ever performed for this type of variables in our Galaxy, which will be a great tool for distance determinations to nearby galaxies in the era of large sky surveys using the Sloan photometric system, especially in context of the upcoming Large Synoptic Survey of Space and Time (LSST) project.
