Konkurs “Science is Freedom”
Prof. Grzegorz Pietrzyński, together with the Araucaria Project, was honored with 2nd price in the contest “Science is Freedom” organized by Polish Ministry of Science.
Our team was awarded for unprecedentely precise measuring distances to nearby galaxy – the Large Magellanic Cloud. The results was published in the prestigious “Nature” journal in March 2013.
Distance determination is a cornerstone of all astronomical reseach, from the evolution of the closest galaxies, to the future of our Universe.
