{"id":2382,"date":"2023-04-11T09:10:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T09:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/araucaria.camk.edu.pl\/?p=2382"},"modified":"2024-10-31T02:04:18","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T02:04:18","slug":"asa-is-building-telescopes-in-the-atacama-desert-chile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/araucaria.camk.edu.pl\/index.php\/2023\/04\/11\/asa-is-building-telescopes-in-the-atacama-desert-chile\/","title":{"rendered":"ASA is building telescopes in the Atacama Desert, Chile"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A couple of years ago, we signed a contract with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.astrosysteme.com\/products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ASA Astrosysteme<\/a>, an Austrian company renowned for their telescope-building expertise. That marked the beginning of a long-term partnership between ASA and Araucaria, with the aim of installing new telescopes at the Observatory Cerro Murphy (OCM, former Observatory Cerro Armazones, OCA) in the Atacama Desert, Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fast forward to 2022, and now we are proud owners of three new telescopes, produced and delivered by ASA:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ASA600, an 0.6-m telescope, named by us WK06 to honor our colleague Wojtek Krzemi\u0144ski<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AZ800, an 0.8-m telescope, named by us ZB08 to honour our colleague Zbigniew &#8220;Zibi&#8221; Ko\u0142aczkowski<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AZ1500, a1.5-m telescope, named by us JK15 to honour our colleague Janusz Ka\u0142u\u017cny<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The telescopes are equipped with Andor iKon cameras, and JK15 is additionally connected to a high resolution spectrograph. In other words, we are getting ready for high-impact scientific observations. What will we observe?
