The new name of the asteroid was announced in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wgsbn-iau.org\/files\/Bulletins\/latest.pdf#page13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bulletin of the Working Group of Small Bodies Nomenclature, Volume 3, #6, 2023<\/a>, published on behalf of the International Astronomical Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rolf-Peter Kudritzki (b. 1945) is a German astronomer who studies extragalactic stellar spectroscopy. Kudritzki obtained his PhD at the Technical University of Berlin (1973) and was Director of the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Munich (1982\u20132000) and Director of the University of Hawaii&#8217;s Institute for Astronomy (2000\u20132010).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The asteroid was discovered on May 30, 2011, by Pan-STARRS 1.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/araucaria.camk.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/asteroid.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2370\" width=\"512\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/araucaria.camk.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/asteroid.jpg 850w, https:\/\/araucaria.camk.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/asteroid-300x284.jpg 300w, https:\/\/araucaria.camk.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/asteroid-768x728.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our long-time Araucarian Rolf Kudritzki has now his own asteroid, 2012 XN58 &#8220;Kudritzki&#8221;.
